The COMMUTER Act would give tax credits to companies offering free public transit rides to their employees.

US Congressman Mark Kirk says companies will want to sign up - even if it might cost them a few extra dollars.

KIRK: To have a workforce that's happier and taking care of their families is something that encourages a stable and longterm exrpert workforce.

The bill would essential pay back companies half the price of public transit rides it provides to employers, up to a certain level.

One of his ideas has received a cool welcome in the city of deep dish pizza, Italian beef, and the Maxwell Street polish. Weis has floated the idea of physical fitness tests for Chicago cops. It's not all that surprising given that Weis comes from the FBI, where physical fitness is part of the culture.

Kelly Trial Brings Up Broader Issues

Audio Available
Today, the R. Kelly child pornography trial finally gets underway. Six years ago police arrested the R&B star after a videotape surfaced of a man having sex with a girl, allegedly underage girl. Prosecutors say that man is Kelly. Kelly is pleading not guilty. Despite his legal travails, Kelly remains a multi-platinum-selling artist. And there will undoubtedly be a lot of hoopla as the case unfolds. But it’s more than mere celebrity obsession. For some, Kelly’s trial raises complicated issues around race and gender.
